We have planned another Zen pilgrimage to China. In December 2026, we will again travel in the footsteps of the first Chinese Zen patriarchs: Huike (487–594), Sengcan (†606), Daoxin (580–651), Hongren (601–674), and Huineng (638–713).
Along the way, you will of course also get to know China itself—its people, its food, and much more.

This is primarily a personal pilgrimage to the source of our Zen practice. We leave the crowds of Shanghai behind us and return to the times and places where the great Zen masters of the past practiced, meditated and taught.
Because this pilgrimage is so special, we would like to share it with other Zen practitioners.

• Who is it for: For Zen practitioners. We will visit important places that have shaped the development of Zen as we know it today. Everyday there is a dharma talk bij John de Weerdt Sensei. And at the temples we visit the abbot or a senior monk will give us a dharma talk.
• When: 27 december 2026 t/m 10 januari 2027
• Group size: Minimum 8, maximum 14 participants
• Organization: The team at the Dutch travel agency Dimsum Reizen
• Tour leader: Annie Zheng Yi (Chinese translator and trainee acupuncturist) As a native Chinese, she knows the country intimately. Her background includes studies at Beijing University, a career in China (including at Unilever China), and extensive travel experience in China as well as working and living experience in Europe. She has in depth knowledge of Chinese language, culture, customs, and cuisine. Thanks to her contacts, the group gains access to monasteries that are normally not easily accessible. During the trip, local English-speaking guides assist with all practical matters
• Spiritual leadership: John de Weerdt Sensei. John formally received Dharma transmission (april 2025) in the lineage that goes back to the historical Buddha via Willem Scheepers Roshi, Nico Tydeman Roshi, Genpo Roshi and Maezumi Roshi.
